Foundations of Herbalism Professional Herbalism Course - Earth & Water Module
Our Professional Herbalism Classes through the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism at Smile can be taken as a continuous year-long course leading on to the second year of the Professional Herbalism course or taken separately as a one day or weekend course for Continuing Education credit (AHG) or simply for interest’s sake.

West African Drumming
Discover the drumming tradition of the Ashanti people of Ghana. Join Kofi Nana Frimpong, a renowned dummer with over 25 years of experience, for a journey into the healing modality of dynamic rhythm. Nana will teach drumming skills, African history and story, African instruments, and meditations for healing the mind and body through drumming. Students will be guided in a coordinated drum circle and learn the skills to drum well and have fun while doing it. No experience necessary. We will provide drums, but feel free to bring your own if you have them!

Introduction to Medicinal Food
Betsy Miller, Clinical Herbalist, is of the firm opinion that not all medicinal herbs have to taste gross! This class is based on that premise- learning how to make herbs delicious and enjoyable to take (because herbs really only work when we're willing to take them!). Students will taste, make and discuss recipes for incorporating therapeutic amounts of medicinal herbs into such yummy concoctions as chocolates, soups, baked treats and beverages.

WEBINAR: Lymph Language: Herbal Support for Our Lymphatic System
Our lymphatic system is one of the most important (and overlooked) systems of the human body; like the circulatory system, it connects every cell and tissue in our body into a cohesive whole, and is responsible for maintaining the health and functioning of all our other body systems. Our lymph, however, cannot move without our help. This class will discuss signs and symptoms of lymphatic sluggishness, and how to use herbs, foods and movement to promote the health of our many lymphatic vessels.

Monthly Plant & Mushroom ID Walk
Join Jared, acupuncturist and naturalist, for an engaging and interactive ID (identification) walk where we will focus on learning our native mushrooms and native plants! We will start out at Smile and take a wander through our local walking trails and local woods. Come learn about our Natural Neighbors! Please be prepared for a gentle walk through nature, remembering to bring along water, a small collection basket, bug spray, and any other essentials you might need.

Techniques for making a pendant or ring will be shared. All materials will be provided to create your jewelry from our crystal selection or you may bring your own!

We strive to give you a better understanding of the difference between acute and chronic disease processes and care as well as a basic capacity to apply the knowledge you develop for safe self-care and in-home use.

Our cardiovascular system is one of the main transport system of the body, moving that vital fluid, blood, which carries nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and removes waste. A healthy heart and circulatory system is said to be the secret of a long life. It is a fact that cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of morbidity & mortality in the US and thus we would consider the saying to be absolutely true!
