Energetics of Herbalism: Knowing Plants & People
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the information about herbs that is available, and how to find the right herbs for you? Many people take the approach of ‘kitchen sink’ herbalism, and start taking every single herb that has ever been mentioned for a particular condition. The problem with this approach is that we are all unique- an herb that helps, for example, with stress for one person may not help for stress in another because they experience that stress differently. One person may feel hot, irritated stress, while the other feels cold, sad stress; they clearly need very different herbs to help support them. All traditional systems of healing have a system at their core for how to understand plants and assess people based on what we call energetics & constitution. The concept of Energetics within the context of Traditional Western Herbalism provides a framework for understanding how imbalance/illness may manifest within certain patterns of hot, cold, damp, or dry, and how to understand the actions of herbs within those patterns in the human body. In this class, clinical herbalist Betsy Miller will teach about how to recognize energetic patterns in people, and how to discover the tastes and energetics of plants as a way to fit the right herb to the person to optimize their health and wellness.
