- "Many out there claim Vitex to be a magical hormone normalizer that will fix anything that may be wrong with the female reproductive system, and while that would be very convenient, it would take some of the fun out of herbal formulating! I use Vitex predominantly to regulate menstrual cycles that are all out of sorts, but in specific ways. Its dopaminergic activity makes this herb especially useful for those with an excess of the hormone prolactin, which can cause symptoms such as spotting, irregular cycles, amenorrhea, breast pain, vaginal dryness (not related to menopause), low libido, and infertility. It also appears to increase progesterone and thus can be useful for the long list of symptoms and conditions caused by estrogen dominance such as PCOS, fibroids, estrogen-dependent tumors, and many others. It is also very important to be aware, that if Vitex is helping, it means that most likely there is a Dopamine deficiency involved. Therefore you want to give the body the proper building blocks to create dopamine: Magnesium, B-6, Zinc, essential fatty acids, vitamin C, and iron." - Nick Becker.
